Clinical Sister/Charge Nurse - Willoughby

We have an exciting Band 6 opportunity to join our team on Willoughby Ward to cover a secondment. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who enjoys a fast-paced environment. You will need excellent communication and organisational skills, be self-motivated and a dynamic leader. The successful applicant will join an established team within the Elective Division which specialises in gastrointestinal surgery.
Willoughby is an acute ward with 24 beds which normally specialises in pre and post-operative nursing care of elective and emergency bowel surgery patients including stoma care and managing patients with epidurals, PCA's and central lines.
Willoughby Ward are looking after patients who have been admitted via the emergency pathway. You will have the opportunity to take care of patients both pre and post operatively after emergency surgery and develop acute surgical nursing skills.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will contribute to the development of the ward team and support the Ward Manager in the delivery of a consistently high quality and cost effective service. To deputise for the Ward Manager as required.

The post holder will:
1. Hold a Diploma/Degree in Professional Nursing
2. Be a first level registered nurse with 2 years experience in an acute medical setting
3. Possess relevant post-basic education and experience, which should include a minimum of two years at Band 5
4. Provide evidence of continuous personal and professional development
5. Possess the aptitude and confidence for working within a rapidly changing environment
6. Have excellent communication skills both verbal and written
7. Have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
Key Responsibilities
1. To provide clinical and professional leadership and support to all non-medical staff in the ward, ensuring that nursing practice is based on current and best evidence.
2. Take responsibility for own personal and professional development, maintaining clinical credibility and competence at all times.
3. Keep an up to date personal portfolio, in line with revalidation requirements in maintaining NMC registration.
4. Ensure that the wards philosophy is in line with the principles of clinical governance and that all staff understands its significance to practice.
5. In conjunction with the Ward Manager ensure that KPIs, and Infection Prevention standards are maintained each month.

Qualifications
* Diploma / Degree in Professional Nursing/Health Studies

* Two years' experience in Acute Medical Area
