Location: Milton Keynes
This fantastic charity is providing holistic person-centred support for adults with learning disabilities and autism, supporting their residents in all aspects of their daily lives and believing that each person should be appreciated and accepted for their unique abilities.
Role Overview: Reporting to the House Coordinator or Care and Support Services Manager, your role will include supporting residents with their general welfare, housing-related tasks, and pursuing their social and educational activities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Ensure, together with colleagues, that residents experience a safe, healthy, and purposeful environment, in accordance with policies, procedures, and statutory requirements.
2. Prepare and maintain written needs and risk assessments and support plans for allocated residents. Maintain other records as requested, e.g., residents' daily reports, accident and incident reports, health and safety records, and communication systems clearly, accurately, and timely.
3. Support residents in making their own decisions and informed choices, assisting them in promoting and maintaining their independence, including managing their own finances, budgeting, and dealing with statutory bodies and services.
4. Support residents to access a range of leisure and social activities and other services.
5. Monitor and respond to medical or health needs and, when authorized, administer medication.
6. Support residents to maintain their tenancy and look after their shared home, e.g., complete domestic tasks and maintain a clean and safe home environment.
7. Work with residents to ensure planning of healthy diet choices and support with meal preparation and cooking.
8. Support residents with attending meetings and appointments if required.
9. Provide emotional support and appropriate intervention for distressed residents.
10. Support people to maintain regular contact with their own families and/or other significant individuals according to the person's wishes.
11. Liaise with other agencies as required, i.e., regarding service users' annual reviews and health appointments.
12. Ensure service users are aware of CMKC's safeguarding adults procedures, comments and complaints procedures, and document any incidents, accidents, or complaints accordingly.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Relevant and transferable skills
2. Good numeracy and literacy skills
3. Understanding of the principles of care practice
4. Understanding of the principles of equality, diversity, and anti-discriminatory practice
5. Working knowledge of basic hygiene standards
6. Care Certificate or Level 2 in Care qualification or equivalent qualification (Desirable)
7. Previous experience of working in social care with people with learning disabilities or other needs (Desirable)
8. Eligible to work in the UK
