Job Title: Senior Fire Engineer
Location: Leeds or Sheffield
Why Arup?
The possibilities are endless when talented people work together. Arup hires people with proven skills and open minds. We are a diverse community of people with shared values, who believe there’s nothing we can’t achieve if we work together.
The Role
We are currently seeking a Senior Fire Engineer for our Leeds or Sheffield offices. This role is vital due to our growing portfolio of exciting projects and to assist in the development of our team.
You will be working with a creative, innovative, multi-cultural and self-motivated team of fire safety consultants throughout the UK and Middle East. The successful candidate will complement our fire safety consultants by assisting with the implementation of the fire engineering services on our projects.
The successful candidate will form part of the project team on a range of different projects, managing junior engineers, and being supported by the wider team as necessary. The role will involve interactive and collaborative working with our fire engineers and with colleagues throughout the multidisciplinary teams at Arup. The role gives the opportunity to travel to our 10 UK offices or further afield as projects require. The projects will be diverse, exciting and range from conceptual fire strategy development through to handing over landmark projects in the built environment.
The Opportunity
Our Fire Engineering team takes a particularly energetic role in the development of our people and routinely enable opportunities to attend appropriate training and development courses. Also because of the developing nature of fire engineering, employees are encouraged to attend the appropriate annual conferences and CPD events (both internal and external). Once you have demonstrated a suitable skill in fire engineering and delivery of projects there will be a number of opportunities to advance your career.
We are looking for someone who is technically excellent and capable of delivering quality fire safety solutions on time and on budget. A history of gaining consent for prescriptive and performance based design solutions from approving authorities is also important.
As a senior member of the Fire team, you will have strong meeting and negotiating skills and a background of managing project teams. You will be a team player capable of imparting knowledge and background to other members of the team in order to grow and develop them with your help.
Preferably chartered with a relevant institution such as the Institution of Fire Engineers or be close to gaining Chartered Engineer status.
Extensive background in delivering fire engineered solutions for UK based projects.
Familiarity with appropriate legislation and design guidance for use in the UK, awareness of industry difficulties and forthcoming changes and background in implementation in projects as well as discussing/presenting to clients and stakeholders on the topic.
Be familiar with RIBA stages of design or other design frameworks (e.g. GRIP) and see the total fire concept: from the client brief through to construction and operation, the fire engineering problems relevant to different design stages and the level/type of fire engineering input needed to progress the design and contribute to completion.
