The Opportunity
St Andrews Links manages seven golf courses in and around St Andrews, including the world famous Old Course, as well as a number of hospitality and retail venues, a golf academy and has corporate partnerships with some of the biggest names in golf and other leading global brands.
The newly created position of Financial Accountant will play a key role in supporting the continued growth and development of the organisation by providing robust oversight and control of statutory reporting requirements and will play a critical part in supporting future projects and initiatives through the provision of insightful financial advice.
With The Open due to return to St Andrews in 2027 this is an excellent opportunity to take on a meaningful and broad ranging role at the Home of Golf.
The Position
Reporting into the Head of Finance you will focus on areas which require external compliance including audit, VAT and tax, engaging effectively with external advisors and acting as a trusted business partner in these areas to stakeholders across the organisation.
Key duties & responsibilities include:
* Collate the draft annual report which goes to the Audit & Risk Committee and the Board of Trustees for sign off and then supporting the year end audit process
* Responsible for the preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns
* In collaboration with external advisors, provide advice to key stakeholders on VAT and tax matters related to future projects and potential new revenue streams
* Responsible for reviewing annual tax calculations provided by the auditors and liaising with them ahead of any relevant Gift Aid payments required and submissions to HMRC
* Development of real time liquidity forecasting
* Support various project work as required, either as finance lead or support.
* Assist the finance department and wider business with continuous process improvement
Your Profile
You will be a fully qualified accountant, ideally with a minimum of five years post qualified experience. You will have good working knowledge of audit requirements and processes and previous experience of preparing VAT, tax and other statutory returns. In addition to solid compliance experience in these areas you will also keep yourself up to date with the rules and legislation and will be confident in providing advice to the wider business to support decision making and commercial activities. Excellent written and verbal communication, Excel and data analysis skills are required.
Salary & benefits
Salary will be in the range of £55-60k, dependent on experience, plus benefits which include a generous employer pension contribution and a Links Ticket which gives access to all seven golf courses. Hybrid working is available with a preference for staff to be in the office for a minimum of three days a week
