Solar Sister is an organization dedicated to empowering women and addressing energy poverty in last-mile communities by recruiting, training, and supporting women to become entrepreneurs in the clean energy sector. When empowered female entrepreneurs bring affordable, clean energy products to their communities, livelihoods are improved thanks to regular access to energy, and the effects of climate change are mitigated while CO2 emissions are reduced. Women gain footing on which to build a more equitable future for themselves and their families. Since its inception, Solar Sister has supported more than 11,000 women across Africa who have reached over 5 million people with life-changing renewable energy products.
Position Overview
The Communications Intern will support the Communications Manager in developing social media content, blogging, and updating the photo archive. Responsibilities include:
1. Develop Social Media posts: Create weekly social media campaigns aligned with the goals and subjects outlined in the communications plan.
2. Evaluate our social media presence: Make suggestions on how we can grow our audiences, particularly on LinkedIn.
3. Assist in photo archive management: Including keywording and archive organization.
4. Research and outline ideas for content: For newsletters/blog posts relating to our three pillars: gender equity, energy access, and climate action as they relate to Solar Sister.
Desired Qualifications:
1. Education or certification in a communications-related field, creative and marketing interest.
2. Experience with creating and posting on social media.
3. Ability to review analytics information as it pertains to social media.
4. Knowledge of Canva for designing social media and presentations.
5. Writing and interviewing skills.
6. An interest in women’s empowerment, climate, and clean energy is preferred but optional.
7. Able to work independently.
