Night Transport Planner
4 on 4 off Nights - 6pm to 6am
Owens Group is a fast-developing, multisite organisation, with a large diverse customer base, making this an exciting opportunity. As a result, Owens Group is looking to recruit a Night Transport Planner to take responsibility for the timely traffic planning of routes and scheduling delivery times to ensure that the customer receives a first-class service in a cost-effective way.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Carry out tasks largely unsupervised to cost and quality standards.
2. Plan ahead - tasks and resources.
3. Liaise with internal/external customers to resolve problems.
4. Collect, analyse and distribute information/data.
5. Provide professional/specialist advice both internally and externally.
6. Develop relationships with external customers.
7. Specify and ensure levels of support service are in place.
8. Prioritise and co-ordinate workloads.
9. Complete tasks to time and quality standards.
10. Aim for no customer complaints and work to budgets.
11. Establish successful working partnerships with customers, internal and external.
12. Deliver the right advice in a timely manner.
13. Achieve respect of others regarding your competence.
Specific Key Accountabilities:
1. Work with customers/suppliers/drivers and other traffic desks, planning routes and scheduling delivery times to ensure the smooth running of the operation.
2. Prioritise workload, route planning, driver brief and de-brief.
3. Liaise with other depots within the Company.
4. Communicate and monitor driver performance.
5. Maintain strong organisational skills for planning schedules, journeys, and loads.
6. Proactively work to reduce late deliveries and missed time slots.
7. Make quick decisions and work flexibly.
8. Exhibit excellent communication skills and the ability to deal with people at all levels.
9. Maintain the computerised system Stirling and have the skills to use Excel spreadsheets.
10. Have a good understanding of transport regulations currently in force.
11. Possess good geographical knowledge.
12. Monitor Compliance and work with drivers to eliminate infringements.
13. Ensure all drivers are aware of SAFED and actively improve SAFED achievements to goals.
14. Be an integral part of and responsible for employee health and safety.
15. Ensure that vehicles and trailers are available in a timely manner to adhere to Compliance and inspection requirements.
16. Provide general support appropriate to management when required.
Specific Qualifications/Job Training:
1. Experience of working at a similar level.
2. Job-specific qualification preferred.
3. Specific Experience in Traffic Management.
4. Dealing with VOSA Compliance.
5. Problem solving/logical thinking.
6. Working unsupervised, continually managing time and prioritising work to meet tight deadlines.
Specific Skills:
1. Good communication skills, interaction at all levels internal and external.
2. Geographical knowledge.
3. Team player with a flexible 'Can Do' attitude.
