Location: Headington, Oxford
Age Range: Primary and Secondary students aged 8 to 18 years old
Are you an advocate for promoting positive mental health?
Do you want to build a career centered around helping young people to make positive decisions and live a safe and fulfilled life?
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Behaviour Mentor to join a specialist school for students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. Some of the students also have learning disabilities alongside their SEMH needs. The Behaviour Mentor position involves working 1:1 and with small groups of pupils with challenging behavioural needs. Your role will be to build positive relationships with these students to encourage them to make positive choices and support them in learning how to regulate their emotions.
This is a full-time, long-term behaviour mentor position to start ASAP. The students with these mental health and special educational needs are aged 8 to 18, running from KS2 through to KS5. The successful behaviour mentor will be responsible for managing and de-escalating behaviour, whilst helping to build the students' self-esteem and facilitate learning.
This is a positive and nurturing environment that utilises therapeutic interventions to help each child fulfil their potential and overcome their barriers to learning. The school has a full-time educational psychologist on site as well as numerous counsellors. The behaviour mentor will have the opportunity to shadow these professionals to learn more about these career paths.
The school acknowledges that the journey we all face together can often be fraught with highs and lows. They nurture the uniqueness and intrinsic value of all their pupils whilst working in partnership to achieve appropriate and positive outcomes for all, securing a positive way forward for their future - 'Just because you have a diagnosis, does not mean you cannot be successful'.
