Job summary
At UHB we are looking to appoint self-motivated, enthusiastic, dynamic Registered Clinical Preceptorship Support Midwife predominately based in the community setting.
The post holder will be responsible for overseeing the preceptorship programme, supporting the transition from student to newly qualified midwife. Acting as a role model, you will provide support for the preceptee midwives as they consolidate their learning and skills. As a member of the education team, you will work with the preceptees to enhance their experience, build confidence and establish a strong foundation for their future career.
1. Provide clinical leadership, guidance and support to preceptees within a variety of clinical and community settings.
2. Keep up to date with developments in midwifery practice, incorporating national and local recommendations into the preceptorship programme.
3. Support preceptees according to their individual learning needs, ensuring the approach is constructive and supportive and providing them with the appropriate resources to enable them to develop their confidence and practice.
4. Enable the preceptees to achieve the aims and outcomes of the preceptorship programme. Performing regular checks, according to the programme timeline and individual need, to ensure progression is on target.
5. Empower preceptees to appropriately escalate concerns and support them to build confidence within the profession.
6. Facilitate local inductions for preceptee midwives, ensuring activities are designed to welcome and integrate them into the team and place of work.
7. Monitor progress, rotation, achievements and attrition rates for all preceptees.
8. Evaluate the preceptorship programme and adapt accordingly, measuring the effectiveness and impact of preceptorship programmes on retention and recruitment.
9. Attend departmental meetings where appropriate, supporting evaluation of changes within midwifery practice. Provide feedback and report preceptorship updates.
10. Participate in audit, risk management, quality, practice and education initiatives to drive and support the implementation of change as necessary.

Person specification
Qualifications
1. Registered midwife
2. Accredited mentorship qualification or equivalent experience
3. Current Professional Registration
4. Master's degree or willingness to undertake
5. Leadership qualification or completion of leadership programme
Experience
1. Experience in a community midwifery setting.
2. Evidence of practice as a Band 6 RM
3. Evidence of CPD
4. Able to demonstrate an understanding of the national vision for maternity services and the wider health service
5. Ability to manage people and change
6. Experience of conflict management
7. Minimum of 4 years Post Registration experience in all areas of Midwifery
8. Experience in research
9. Experience in audit
10. Experience in HR and Management Related Issues
Additional Criteria
Full clean driving licence, with access to own car.
