Job Title: Teaching Assistant (Special Educational Needs & SEMH) Location: Wirral Salary: Competitive, based on experience Contract: Full-time About the Role: We are seeking an experienced and empathetic Teaching Assistant to work with a Year 8 student in a specialized setting for students with additional needs. This role involves providing 1-1 support to a young person who may sometimes display challenging behaviour, and as such, we are looking for someone with the patience, resilience, and skills to build a positive, supportive relationship. The ideal candidate will be someone who can actively engage the student, create meaningful conversations, and offer consistent guidance to help him develop his social, emotional, and academic skills. The school has received a "Good" rating from Ofsted, and pride themselves on providing a safe, supportive environment for students to thrive. Key Responsibilities: Provide individualized support to a Year 8 student, focusing on his social, emotional, and academic development. Build and maintain a trusting, positive relationship with the student, using clear communication and empathy. Support the student in managing and understanding his behaviour, guiding him through challenging situations in a calm and constructive manner. Actively engage with the student, encouraging open conversation and fostering his interest in learning. Collaborate with the teaching staff to develop and implement tailored strategies and interventions that support the student’s progress. What We’re Looking For: Experience working with students with special educational needs, ideally in a setting where students may display challenging behaviours. A positive, patient, and adaptable personality with excellent interpersonal skills. The ability to build trust and engage with the student in a way that encourages personal growth and resilience. Strong communication skills, with a compassionate approach to behaviour management. An understanding of SEN and SEMH needs, and a commitment to helping students succeed in a supportive environment.
