The Clinical Microbiology department based at the Royal Cornwall Hospital site is looking to appoint a highly motivated, enthusiastic, suitably qualified and experienced candidate to join the department as the Lead BMS for Microbiology including Bacteriology, and Virology sections.
As a Biomedical Scientist the post holder will be expected to work within the professional standards as a registrant of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and maintain a portfolio of evidence supporting Continuing Professional development (CPD).
The post holder will be required to conform to agreed standard operational procedures, policies and good laboratory practice and also within their work duties to comply with the standards as required of ISO15189:2012.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Microbiology department and maintain an efficient high quality service in line with UKAS requirements.
As a registered Biomedical Scientist you should be able to demonstrate a postgraduate level knowledge of Clinical Microbiology and have experience of laboratory management, quality management, health & safety and containment level 3 requirements.
Be responsible for the planning, organisation, and management of workload in the Microbiology department, supervising and coordinating the activities of the laboratory staff within the laboratory.
Ensure regulatory compliance within Microbiology for both HSE & UKAS.
Manage of all aspects of HR related work in Microbiology including the recruitment & retention of staff.
Manage all training activity within the Microbiology including maintenance of IBMS training accreditation, implementation of training programmes and schedules.
Participate in the on-going education and training of both unqualified and qualified BMS staff in order for them to gain and maintain state registration.
Manage H&S requirements such as development and maintenance of COSHH /risk assessments and to coordinate the implementation of Health and Safety policies and procedures, ensuring they are maintained with particular considerations for containment level 3 facilities.
The successful candidate will also be expected to act as the deputy for the Head Biomedical Scientist.
