Environmental Manager - civil engineering/construction major project - £60-£70k+package
Purpose: An exciting opportunity to join an expanding team focused on ensuring environmental compliance across highways projects and helping to deliver sustainability targets to achieve the aims of the projects sustainability strategy. The role will ensure environmental compliance across all major environmental aspects – water, waste, noise/vibration, ecological – and provide advice and guidance to various teams to help achieve this. The role will also involve supervising and mentoring the development of project Environmental Advisors and delivering suitable environmental and sustainability training for all project staff.
Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for the environmental compliance across all major environmental aspects – water, waste, noise/vibration, ecological – for one of the two sections of the project (with an estimated cost of £450million)
2. Provide environmental compliance advice to various teams, including design construction, procurement and subcontractors and suppliers on the practical implementation of contract policies, processes and requirements
3. Manage and mentor the development of project Environmental Advisors
4. Assist the Environmental Lead in the development and implementation of the Environmental Management Plan and other site specific control measures
5. Undertake environmental audits and inspections, both internal and external, including suppliers and waste contractors
6. Deliver suitable environmental and sustainability training for all project staff
7. Drive awareness for and delivery against contract targets, particularly reducing Carbon, materials efficiency and striving to achieve no-net loss in biodiversity
8. Drive innovation and continuous improvement throughout the project team
9. Identify and communicate environmental and sustainability risks and mitigations, assisting with the review and undertaking writing of plans, risk assessments and method statements
10. Understand the Client and Skanska’s Environment and Sustainability Policies, Processes and statutory requirements as they affect the contracts operations and ensure that the requirements are implemented on the project
Qualifications/Experience:
1. Degree level in appropriate Environmental or relevant discipline or equivalent (eg NVQ)
2. Construction industry experience or relevant environmental experience in a similar sector
3. Minimum Practitioner Membership with IEMA or similar professional membership
4. Full driving licence and willingness to travel across projects/contracts in region
5. Competent IT skills
