We are currently recruiting for a Domestic Abuse Intervention Specialist on behalf of our public sector client based in Ilford.
This is a temporary contract, initially for 3-6 months with view for further extension thereafter. The hourly rate is £23.75 per hour.
Responsibilities:
1. Carry out initial screening, complete safety planning and provide ongoing emotional and practical support to victims, ensuring that their views and needs are the focus of the service.
2. Coordinate the support needs of victims/survivors and their families, ensuring all safeguarding issues are identified and addressed.
3. Undertake proactive case work, including visits in the community and at home to engage hard to reach victims/survivors.
4. Advocate for victims/survivors in various professional settings (MARAC, court, etc).
5. Maintain accurate, comprehensive case records using specified electronic systems, complying with completion deadlines.
6. Attend all relevant meetings and case management reviews.
7. Ensure all matters of safeguarding are dealt with promptly, effectively and in line with procedures.
8. Conduct interviews with victims/survivors and perpetrators of abuse as needed to provide a holistic assessment of risk and need.
9. Work with a diverse range of service users, including those with mental health conditions, those impacted by substance misuse, and others who may face barriers to accessing services.
10. Support service users through ongoing risk assessment, safety planning, advocacy, emotional support, and practical support (e.g., housing, legal and financial guidance).
11. Deliver training and provide guidance to internal colleagues and other professionals regarding domestic abuse and gender-based violence.
12. Maintain an up-to-date working knowledge of legislation, statutory frameworks, and codes of practice relevant to the service.
13. Effectively communicate and share necessary information with other relevant professionals, i.e., police and other VAWG services.
14. Actively promote the service through appropriate publicity, events, and networking, and be proactive in securing sufficient referrals to maintain a full caseload.
Key Skills/Experience Required:
1. Significant experience of working with victims/survivors of domestic abuse or with service users with complex needs.
2. Experience of dealing with conflict and difficult situations in a professional manner.
3. Experience of multi-agency working and advocating for survivors within these settings.
4. Experience of responding to safeguarding issues.
5. Prior completion of an IDVA training certificate would be beneficial; however, applications are welcome from those with a relevant qualification at NVQ Level 2 or above, or demonstrable experience.
