Overview
The Social Consultant focuses on conducting social impact assessments, developing management plans, and collaborating with stakeholders to mitigate adverse effects, delivering consultancy services in alignment with international standards.
Responsibilities
Conduct Social Impact Assessments and Stakeholder Engagement Processes:
1. Conduct social impact assessments to evaluate potential project effects on communities, cultures, and stakeholders
2. Facilitate inclusive stakeholder engagement processes to gather insights, address concerns, and promote transparency
Develop Social Management Plans:
3. Design and implement social management plans that foster social inclusion, community participation, and sustainable development practices
4. Integrate mitigation measures and enhancement strategies to minimize social impacts and maximize positive outcomes
Collaborate with Communities and Stakeholders:
5. Engage with communities, local authorities, NGOs, and other stakeholders to build constructive relationships and address social concerns
6. Work collaboratively to identify and implement measures to mitigate social impacts, respecting local customs and preferences.
Deliver Social Consultancy Services in Compliance with International Standards:
7. Ensure all social consultancy services comply with relevant international standards, regulations, and best practices
8. Provide expert guidance to clients on meeting environmental and social requirements throughout project lifecycles
Support Proposal Preparation and Client Liaison:
9. Assist in preparing project proposals by contributing expertise in social and environmental standards, methodologies, and compliance
10. Liaise with clients to understand their environmental and social sustainability objectives, offering tailored solutions and support
Travel for Site Visits and Documentation Review:
11. Travel internationally to project sites for on-site assessments, documentation review, and monitoring of environmental, health, safety, and social aspects
12. Document findings, observations, and recommendations to inform decision-making and ensure compliance with standards
Provide Support for Project Management Tasks:
13. Collaborate with project managers to monitor budgets, schedules, and deliverables related to environmental and social aspects
14. Contribute to cross-functional teams, ensuring effective integration of environmental and social considerations into project planning and execution
Essential requirements
15. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Sociology, Social Sciences, Anthropology, or related field.
16. Experience in social impact assessments and stakeholder engagement.
17. Knowledge of international standards and best practices in social sustainability.
18. Experience in environmental assessment methodologies and compliance with project financing environmental and social standards.
19. In-depth understanding and application of IFC Performance standards as well as ADB/EBRD/Equator Principles or other international Lenders’ Environmental, social, health and safety standards, in the context of infrastructure and/or energy sectors #LI-CB1
