The Automation Technical Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining surface mount technology (SMT) and Selective Solder machines and equipment to assemble printed circuit boards (PCBs). This role requires attention to detail, a strong understanding of SMT processes, and adherence to quality and safety standards ensuring that the automated processes are carried out within expected time frames, to a high standard meeting customer expectation.
Responsibilities
Machine Setup and Operation:
• Set up and operate SMT machines, including screen printers, pick-and-place machines, reflow ovens, and Selective Solder.
• Load components, feeders, and PCBs according to production requirements.
• Complete offline set-up of upcoming jobs as per the production schedule set out.
• Replenish components and consumables as they are consumed by machines.
Quality Control:
• Inspect PCBs for defects such as misaligned components, soldering issues, or missing parts.
• Perform visual and automated quality checks to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Identify and report defects or issues during the manufacturing process.
• Investigate the root cause of any quality issues and implement necessary changes to overcome issues.
• Conduct AOI and visual inspection to IPC610 standards, raising any quality issues with the line Manager.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of Automation equipment.
• Identify and resolve machine errors or malfunctions promptly to minimise downtime.
Continuous Improvement:
• Monitor production processes and suggest improvements to optimise efficiency and reduce waste.
• Document issues and provide feedback to supervisors and engineering teams.
• Participate in training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
Material Handling:
• Handle, organise, and store electronic components and materials properly through the production processes to avoid damage.
• Assist with inventory management and stock control, reporting any shortages to the warehouse team in a timely manner.
Team Collaboration:
• Work as part of a production team to meet manufacturing deadlines and targets in line with the production schedule.
• Communicate effectively with all stakeholders to ensure an efficient flow of work and to resolve production issues.
