What's the role?
This role represents a rare chance to join a very ambitious, high-growth, Scottish-headquartered business near the outset of a new phase of its journey. The business is going through a period of significant change and investment having been acquired by KKR, one of the world’s pre-eminent private investment houses, last year.
You will be working for the General Counsel alongside other team members to provide legal advice and support on a broad range of issues and projects but with a leaning towards commercial and data protection work. The quality of work on offer is notably high.
You will be welcomed into a team of in-house lawyers (small at present) used to working within a dynamic environment in service of a very ambitious, high-growth business.
Contractual 40 hours, working Monday to Friday from our Glasgow Office. Would consider a 4 day working week.
Key responsibilities:
* Work on all legal and regulatory aspects for the company but with a greater tendency towards commercial and data protection matters.
* More generally:
• Customer and supplier contracts (especially sophisticated services agreements)
• Data protection (policy and practice)
• Corporate (general corporate, company secretarial and M&A support)
• General compliance (anti-bribery, anti-fraud, competition, health & safety etc.)
• Property (leases of commercial premises, for the most part)
• Intellectual property
• Disputes and litigation
* Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations
* Consider legal risks, create strategies to mitigate them
* Advise executive and senior management on various matters
* Help the team establish effective and best practice governance processes for the Board and ensure the efficient administration
* Horizon scanning for relevant upcoming legal developments impacting the organisation
* Liaison with outside counsel within agreed commercial parameters
* Support the General Counsel in management of:
• Group wide insurance
• Whistleblowing events
* Additional duties as required.
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
* LLB Degree from a Scottish, English, or Welsh University
* Qualified solicitor in Scotland or England and Wales, with valid practicing certificate
* Dual-qualified preferred but not essential
* Experience at mid/senior level within an established law firm, or substantial in-house organisation
* Significant experience of drafting and negotiating contracts of moderate to high value and sophistication
* Significant experience of handling data protection matters highly desirable
* General corporate and/or corporate transactions experience desirable but not essential
