Job summary We are looking to appoint an Advanced Specialist Occupational Therapist in Gender Healthcare to join the West of England Specialist Gender Identity Clinic (WESGIC) based at The Laurels in Exeter. This is a new substantive post following substantial investment in the clinic. The WESGIC is a centre of excellence for the provision of advice and treatment for gender dysphoria for people aged 18 and older. We accept referrals from across the country and provide personalised care and treatment plans to meet our patients individual needs. The post holder will be an expert practitioner, providing OT assessments and interventions within the gender service. They will act as a resource for the team providing professional guidance and participating in the development of the service. Networking skills are essential requirements for working collaboratively and in representing the organisation and the profession within this role. The successful candidate will ensure the monitoring and maintenance of professional standards within the context of a clinical governance framework. They will possess excellent interpersonal skills and have a flexible approach to service delivery. We are looking for a team player who enjoys working in a multi-disciplinary setting with highly experienced and skilled staff. Main duties of the job Provide advanced specialist OT clinical input into the delivery of care and treatment at the Gender Service. To offer assessments and interventions for transgender patients. The role requires a clinician with specialist skills to assess patients needs, analyse and formulate treatment plans within a multi-disciplinary framework. Work as part of the MDT to support patients in line with the NHS England national service specification for gender healthcare. To lead in specialist area of Occupational Therapy intervention in the Gender Service; contribute to development of specialist service and related policies. Clinically supervise OTs, Named Professionals, and Peer Support Workers working in Gender service. To lead peer supervision and continuing professional development of OT staff To demonstrate active clinical and managerial leadership skills within the team, providing education and supervision, where required, to junior team members and other professionals and students. Experienced Occupational Therapist with current HCPC registration. The post holder works autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the services policies and procedures. The post holder will manage a caseload of people with complex needs.
