Consultant Obstetrician with special interest in High Risk Obstetrics

We are delighted to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well-integrated team. The appointee will join a team of obstetricians with special interests in all aspects of complex maternity care. We are looking for an individual with the clinical skills and enthusiasm necessary to make a significant contribution to this team. This is a replacement appointment to support the current establishment of 13 WTE consultants (on a 1:12 on-call rota). Candidates should be aware that a further 3 posts have been approved by Trust Board with a view to expansion of the team over the next 2 years.

Main duties of the job
The new appointee will provide cover for the Delivery Suite, Maternity Day Assessment unit, and antenatal/postnatal inpatients as well as Antenatal clinic sessions. Support and mentoring will be provided in all aspects of work.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop special interest skills and/or work in specialist clinics alongside the high-risk obstetric team.
Job responsibilities
Clinical:
* Provide expert opinions on patients with a wide range of complex obstetric problems.
* Provide consultant-based dedicated sessions on the Delivery Suite in a flexible manner.
* Deliver outpatient antenatal clinical care and contribute to ward rounds.
* Participate in the departmental on-call rota.
* Undertake clinical duties in alignment with Directorate and Trust aims.
* Participate in Clinical Governance, including audit projects and risk management meetings.
* Assist in the timely investigation of complaints.
Administrative:
* Undertake administrative duties related to patient care and departmental operations.
* Become involved with the financial management of the unit.
Research:
* Encourage research activities that complement the service provided.
Teaching:
* Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate education and training.
Person Specification
Education, Qualifications and Specialist Skills
* Primary Medical Qualification
* Full GMC Registration
* Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register
* MRCOG or appropriate specialist training
* Special skills training in the specialty
Clinical Experience
* Evidence of experience in the specialty
* Evidence of significant expertise in intra-partum care
Management and Administration Experience
* Involvement with management and project leadership within the specialty
Teaching
* Experience of supervising junior medical staff
* Participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
Research
* Evidence of involvement in research methodology and publication of findings
Audit
* Evidence of participation in audit
