Government Planning Lawyer
Locum Contract - Full Time 6 months+
Rate - £31.81 per hour PAYE
Annual equivalent of £61,200
London, Hybrid-Working
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced UK Qualified (Solicitor or Barrister/Equivalent) Planning Lawyer to join a Central Government Organisation. My client is looking for a passionate individual who has extensive knowledge and experience of Planning Law. The role involves advising and supporting in exercising functions with a focus on Planning law, Environmental, infrastructure and litigation.
Key Responsibilities of the Planning Lawyer:
1. Responsible for planning policies, safety policies, integration and regeneration.
2. Provide legal support on planning consent applications for large energy infrastructure projects and overhead powerlines, and work with Government Departments on planning reforms.
3. Focus on planning and environmental matters, encompassing the application of the current regime as well as supporting new developments in response to government commitments.
4. Advise on litigation involving the Government, working closely with GLD Litigation teams and external Counsel as required.
5. Conduct a wide variety of matters, making decisions about case progression while liaising with senior colleagues as necessary.
6. Maintain electronic case management and keep electronic files in good order with all correspondence and documents filed appropriately.
7. Manage a high case load while maintaining a good working relationship with team colleagues.
Required Skills and Experience:
1. Sound knowledge of and experience in advising on Planning and Environmental matters.
2. UK Qualified (Solicitor or Barrister/Equivalent) with at least 2 years post-qualified experience.
3. Creative, solutions-focused lawyers with the following skills:
1. Strong communication skills.
2. A proactive approach to managing risks and identifying solutions.
3. Strong interpersonal skills.
4. Capability to create and support an inclusive working environment.
5. Reliable legal judgment and appreciation of legal risk.
6. Sound analysis and legal research to produce timely and fit-for-purpose advice.
