Applications will be welcome from individuals with significant clinical experience in cardiology who are keen to develop skills and knowledge within the specialist area of TAVI. This would be a TAVI specialist nurse development role, working towards a Band 7 once competencies, training, and education necessary for the role are completed. This is in line with Annex 21 meaning once training is completed over an 18-month period a percentage of Band 7 salary as per AFC will be updated.
The successful applicant would be supported by the TAVI team and MDT, through peer discussion, case load review and clinical support, develop competence and confidence in delivering safe and effective management of TAVI patients.
The post holder will be expected to:
1. Assist with the coordination and facilitation of the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) service at LHCH in line with local and national guidelines.
2. Work to develop the TAVI service covering the whole patient journey.
3. Work under the direction of the Lead Heart Valve Nurse as a member of the TAVI team in collaboration with junior medical staff and the nursing teams.
Main duties of the job
1. Assist in the development of clinical services within the TAVI service.
2. To ensure smooth planning, implementation and running of the percutaneous valve service.
3. To ensure the smooth planning, implementation and running of research studies associated with the service.
4. To lead / present the MDT meetings for the percutaneous valve service ensuring all patient information is readily available.
5. Maintain databases and research documentation as required.
6. Undertake administrative tasks as required including patient follow-up.
7. Ensure correct preparation and handling of samples according to local policy and national guidelines.
8. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate programs of evidence-based TAVI nursing care.
9. Work autonomously to provide safe and effective care within the individual's level of competence.
10. Provide expert advice and clinical practice in relation to the specialty.
11. Liaise with valve manufacturers about all aspects of the service.
12. Maintain appropriate channels and styles of communication to meet the needs of patients, relatives, carers, managers, peers and other professional agencies.
13. Establish networks with other specialists at a local, national, and international level to exchange and enhance knowledge and expertise.

Job responsibilities
1. Be accountable for the direct delivery of care to a caseload of patients independently carrying out clinical assessments.
2. Be involved in the development and implementation of an outpatient clinic for patients requiring assessment, ongoing care and counselling.
3. Be a key source of highly specialist knowledge regarding aortic valve disease. Optimise the involvement of patients and carers in the planning and delivery of the service.
4. Contribute to health promotion, identifying factors that have a positive and negative affect on health and well-being.
5. Provide a complete discharge package for TAVI patients, including referral to other agencies and providing educational literature.
6. Advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis and management of patients with severe aortic stenosis in both inpatient and outpatient setting.
7. Participation in daily ward rounds for TAVI patients. Facilitating safe and effective discharge planning and ongoing follow up arrangement.
8. Liaise with professionals in the community to ensure a coordinated approach meeting the needs of patients across primary, secondary, and tertiary sections.
9. Provide a telephone follow up service giving patients advice as necessary.
10. Respects confidential information obtained during professional practice and upholds the principles of Caldicott and the Data Protection Act.
11. As part of the role may involve assisting in the TAVI procedure, including valve preparation within the Cath Lab and Theatre environment. Training will be provided as required and will be adapted to the needs of the TAVI nurse specialist and the TAVI.
