The Luton And Dunstable Ophthalmology have a vacancy for a highly motivated Health Care Assistant with an Interest in Ophthalmology to join our team. We are a large friendly multi disciplinary team who prides itself on striving and providing excellent ophthalmic care to our patient's.
The post holderwill assist in the safe and effective delivery of ophthalmic care whilst under the supervision of Registered Nurses within the Ophthalmology Department.
The HCA will contribute to the provision and Delivery of variety activities of patient/client care. You will be required to undertake training and achieve competencies in using Specialist Ophthalmic Clinical devices. Our Patients come from a variety of cultural backgrounds so you must be able to communicate effectively.

The Health Care Assistant (HCA) will contribute in the provision and delivery of a variety of activities of patient/client care. You will be required to undertake and maintain Core Ophthalmic Competencies and diagnostic procedures. EG Visual Acuity testing, near vision testing, Humphrey visual fields test, auto refraction readings and recording of Intra ocular pressure. This list maybe amended as new diagnostic procedures and clinics develop. You will be trained to instil prescribed eye drops. You will be required to organise clinic lists and undertake requested tests for each patient prior to their consultations. Also as a member of the team you will be expected in fulfilling ward/departmental administrative, clerical and housekeeping duties as designated by sister, e.g. booking transport, appointments, maintaining patient’s records, stock levels e.g. equipment, linen and Catering supplies.
