Job summary We have an exciting opportunity for a consultant post responsible for the provision of general surgery with an interest in colorectal surgery within Swansea Bay University Health Board. At present there are 23 general surgeons serving Swansea in Swansea Bay University Health Board. The majority of these surgeons have sessions in both Morriston and Singleton Hospitals, but all major surgery and emergency intake occur on the Morriston site. The well-established colorectal unit has a national reputation providing local and regional services. General Surgery Services at SwanseaUniversity Health Board are provided for the local populations (over 500,000 residents) of Swansea, Neath, Port Talbot, Bridgend, and South Powys; and tertiary services are provided to the wider population of Mid and Southwest Wales (population 1,000,000). The Department of Lower GI Surgery forms part of the Surgical Directorate, which includes Colorectal, Pancreatic, Bariatric, Oesophageal, Endocrine, Vascular and Urology Surgery. The Directorate is led by a Clinical Director supported by a Clinical Lead, General Manager and a Head of Nursing. We have close links with Swansea University and other University College partners in South Wales especially in the areas of research and development and multi-professional teaching.
