Join us in making your next career move with confidence THE CLIENT Our client is a well-established agricultural organization based in Surrey, BC. They are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to oversee their financial operations while also providing oversight for general operations including HR. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a professional with a strong background in finance, particularly within an operating company environment. THE ROLE The Controller will be responsible for managing all financial aspects of the business, ensuring accurate reporting, compliance, and effective financial strategy. The ideal candidate will bring substantial experience in agriculture, production, or a similar operating environment. In addition to financial leadership, the role will include oversight of HR functions, supporting the company's overall operations and team management. RESPONSIBILITIES - Lead and manage all aspects of the company’s financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis. - Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with accounting standards (ASPE). - Oversee the month-end and year-end closing processes, including account reconciliation and accruals. - Manage general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processes. - Develop and maintain internal controls, ensuring compliance with financial regulations. - Oversee and manage inventory accounting processes, including inventory valuation, cost analysis, and reconciliations, to ensure accurate and timely reporting. - Review and maintain cost accounting procedures to track costs, analyze variances, and support pricing decisions and margin analysis. - Collaborate with operational leadership to drive business performance, cost control initiatives, and financial efficiency. - Provide HR oversight, including involvement in recruitment, employee relations, and ensuring compliance with labor laws. - Assist with the development and implementation of HR policies and practices to support a positive workplace culture. - Lead financial audits, tax filings (including cross-border tax), and coordinate with external auditors and advisors. - Prepare and present financial reports for the Board of Directors and lenders, ensuring clear communication of financial health and strategic insights. - Oversee office operations to ensure a productive and organized work environment, including managing office resources, facilities, and administrative needs. - Provide strategic financial insights and recommendations to the executive team QUALIFICATIONS - CPA designation (CA, CMA, or CGA). - 8 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within an agricultural, production or operational company. - Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance standards in an operational environment. - Experience managing financial systems and processes, with a solid understanding of ASPE. - Familiarity with HR functions such as recruitment and employee relations is a strong asset. - Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills. - Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
