We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Carbon Support Lead to assist in delivering key workstreams related to embodied carbon management within the design and construction of two HVDC converter stations. This role will support the projects embodied carbon lead by overseeing reporting, stakeholder engagement, carbon reduction opportunities, and innovation initiatives. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on a large-scale infrastructure project and drive significant reductions in embodied carbon through innovative and strategic approaches. Your mission Plan, coordinate, and chair monthly carbon meetings Prepare meeting agendas and materials, ensuring comprehensive discussion of progress and challenges Report on project advancements, carbon reduction opportunities, and actions required Collect and quantify realised design opportunities for carbon reduction over the reporting period Compile construction emissions data and prepare reports for submission on the Evotix platform Periodically update and issue the Carbon Management Plan (CMP) and embodied carbon baselines Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to keep documentation up to date Work collaboratively with the design team to identify embodied carbon reduction opportunities Define and develop implementation strategies to integrate opportunities into the project Engage with the client team to secure agreement on proposed strategies Quantify potential carbon savings and track implementation progress Engage specialist supply chain partners to enable the specification of low-carbon construction materials Partner with the operational team to identify and implement carbon reduction measures during construction Develop frameworks and methodologies for measuring the impact of initiatives Support the integration of low-carbon materials and processes in construction activities Act as the primary liaison for managing Hitachis involvement in carbon reduction efforts Coordinate regular engagement meetings, tracking deliverables and commitments Ensure alignment between project goals and Hitachis sustainability strategies Identify and assess emerging technologies and innovations to reduce embodied carbon Lead the development and testing of innovation opportunities identified by the client team Foster a culture of continuous improvement by tracking and sharing best practices Provide analytical support for carbon reduction opportunities identified by the wider team Conduct embodied carbon calculations, such as evaluating the benefits of alternative fuels like HVO for earthworks transport Who are we looking for? Strong background in sustainability, embodied carbon assessment, or environmental management in infrastructure or construction projects. Experience in large scale infrastructure design and/or construction. Familiarity with carbon accounting principles, life cycle assessment (LCA), and relevant software tools. Experience with reporting platforms such as Evotix (or equivalent). Ability to work collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teams, including design, construction, and client teams. Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills. Proficiency in data analysis and reporting, with attention to detail. Familiarity with industry best practices in carbon reduction strategies for infrastructure projects. Desirable Qualifications: Degree in environmental science, sustainability, engineering, or a related field. Chartered status or working towards a relevant professional accreditation (e.g., IEMA, ICE, CIBSE). Prior experience working on major infrastructure projects, particularly in energy or transport sectors. Understanding of government policies and regulations related to carbon reduction.
