Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Category Manager to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for management of strategic and complex materials and indirect spends. This role requires the candidate to have the ability to lead purchasing initiatives and projects, able to lead the development sourcing strategies and recommendations, manage, influence and communicate well with both internal and external stakeholders.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
1. Develop category strategies of high value and complexity which maximise value for money and a continuous improvement structure.
2. Develop and implement cost-based reduction strategies capable of delivering annual saving targets.
3. Collaborate with the wider business to identify products with low demand and make recommendations.
4. Provide budget recommendations, and ensure the business is adequately prepared and conditioned.
5. Conduct research and analyse market trends and how they will impact the business.
6. Develop strong relationships with key suppliers and stakeholders.
7. Support implementation and deliver the ongoing value of the supplier vendor.
8. Support delivery of sustainability strategy of the business.
9. Lead on delivery of the business values and right first-time agenda.
10. Ensure that all aspects of Due Diligence (Food Safety, Quality and Legislation) are adhered to.
11. Take the appropriate and reasonable action in the event of witnessing a breach (or potential breach) of Food Safety, Quality or Legislation.
Required Skills:
1. Previous buying experience (minimum 5 years), particularly in FMCG environment.
2. MCIPS qualified (or working towards MCIPS).
3. Excellent negotiation skills and confident in dealing with suppliers.
4. IT literate – a strong working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint.
5. Detailed understanding of ingredient and packaging markets (particularly meat, dairy, chocolate, vegetables, plastics and cardboard).
6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
7. Demonstrates ability to communicate with various stakeholders within and outside of the business.
8. Capable of making/influencing decisions.
9. Ability to challenge and lead change.
This position is on site at our two offices so travel will be required; the opportunity for hybrid working is possible.
