Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT) has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, committed and experienced sexual health nurse to work within the integrated Sexual Health Service in Telford.
The role involves being exposed to sensitive and confidential information; it is imperative to ensure that this is dealt with in line with organisational policies and information governance.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for candidates who have the necessary skills and experience to provide sexual health and contraception services to patients in our clinics. Evidence of experience and additional post-registration qualifications and/or competences in the specialty must be demonstrated. Most importantly, we are looking for someone with a passion for contraception and sexual health, a 'can do' attitude, and an ability to work independently and as part of our multi-disciplinary team.
Main duties of the job include:
* The post holder will support the provision of high-quality integrated care within Sexual Health Services.
* To work as part of a team and independently in nurse-led and outreach community settings as required.
* To provide a high-quality and holistic service and be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
* The post-holder will provide high-quality genito-urinary medical care to patients, including the assessment, examination, diagnosis, and management of common genito-urinary conditions in line with current guidelines.
* Issue selected treatments and contraception under advanced Patient Group Directions or as an Independent non-medical prescriber.
* To play an active part in the continuing development of the Sexual Health Service.
* Line management responsibilities of allocated staff, to include supervision, sickness and performance management, and appraisals.

* To be responsible for setting high standards of care within the resources available and to review and monitor these on a continuous basis, through the process of audit, to ensure continuing quality of care.
* Contribute to the delivery of evidence-based personalised and compassionate care which places quality at the heart of specialist practice. Care will be responsive to individual needs and reflect current local protocols and national guidelines.
* To lead and undertake nurse-led clinics working alongside nursing colleagues, to ensure continuity of service provision.
* Assess the contraceptive need of the client, taking a comprehensive medical, gynaecological, sexual, and social history as appropriate.
* Undertake risk assessment, clinical examination, and testing for sexually transmitted infection, and issue treatments under PGD or as an independent prescriber.
* To assess and deliver contraceptive care as required, including pregnancy testing and contraception provision of all methods, including LARCs.
* To fit and remove sub-dermal implants competently or to work towards this.
* To fit and remove intrauterine devices competently or to work towards this.
* To offer pregnancy assessment and support for clients requesting referral for termination of pregnancy.
* To discuss contraception needs post-termination with the clients and provide this appropriately.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* BASHH trained
* Degree level or equivalent professional qualification
* Nursing or midwifery qualification and registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
Experience
* Extensive post-registration experience of working in integrated sexual health services or similar services
