Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Business Manager for Clinical Eye Research within the Ophthalmology directorate at the Royal Liverpool Foundation Trust.
The Clinical Eye Research Centre was originally created with one Consultant and one Specialist nurse to facilitate ophthalmic studies/clinical trials.
The department now has approximately 38 clinical trials/studies recruiting with a full nursing, medical and business team in place to bring forward treatments for the future which will reduce the risks of blindness for many patients.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate must have a demonstrable track record working within a clinical research business team at band 6 for a minimum of two years. They must be educated to degree level or equivalent or be currently working towards it.
The successful candidate must possess excellent communication skills, organisation skills, have excellent attention to detail and have experience of line managing staff within research.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
1. Communicating with Chief Investigators and Principal Investigators at the start of a study to obtain an overview and to begin start up.
2. Liaising with the trust setup team to ensure study preparation including financial aspects and costings.
3. Liaising with other members of the Clinical Eye Research team including Matron, research nurses, other business team members and the data team.
4. Ensuring studies/trials are set up in a timely manner and are monitored when the study/trial has started.
5. Involvement in staff recruitment.
6. Attending relevant meetings with the business team and the research team.
Person specification
Qualifications
* University degree or equivalent in relevant health/science related subject(s).
* Post-graduate qualification(s) relevant to research (e.g. MRes, MSc, MPhil or PhD).
* Clinical research training (e.g Certificate/Diploma in Clinical Research or equivalent).
Experience
* Experience of research administration, evaluations and costing, preferably in a University or NHS setting.
* Experience of teaching and presenting.
* Experience of advising and liaison with staff at all levels, preferably in the NHS, universities and industry.
Knowledge
* Knowledge of Regulatory Affairs preferably in the NHS, pharmaceutical industry or contract research organisations (CROs).
* Knowledge of ICH-Good Clinical Practice Guidelines, derived from experience & practice in the NHS, pharmaceutical industry or CROs.
* Knowledge of and experience of Clinical Trial Agreements.
* Knowledge of NHS R&D Strategy “Best Research for Best Health” & the Research Governance Framework.
* Understanding of and commitment to the development of clinical research in the NHS.
* Knowledge of and experience of completing COREC applications and MHRA Clinical Trial Authorisation forms.
Skills
* Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentational and report writing skills.
* Skills to advise on clinical research projects, including correct completion of research related documentation.
* Skills required to develop trial protocols and other study documents (e.g. Case Report Forms).
