Description Did you know that UL has 90 Laboratories across 25 countries globally? Our Lab in Telford is providing Safety testing and Certification Services for major customers in EMEA region. We have been expects in Fire Safety for over 100 years We are looking for a Laboratory Assistant who will support our Senior Engineering Technicians with mechanical and electrical testing of fire door hardware/furniture (e.g. door locks, locking cylinders, hinges etc.). Responsibilities A ssists in mechanical and electrical testing of door hardware/furniture. Sets up and prepares test samples, materials and equipment. Diligently follows test procedures, standards and requirements. Operates designated machines, special laboratory equipment and tools as directed. Receives instructions from and reports to supervisor and personnel in engineering and laboratory operations as needed. Assists in recording observed data on appropriate UL forms. May support in preparation of instructions for test methods and procedures. Manual and physical work included. Examines test chambers/samples, reads drawings and measuring instruments. Develops knowledge of applicable test requirements and operational instructions. Qualifications Mechanical/electrical education (Technical School diploma or Engineering degree). Ability to work mechanically, building rigs, new jigs, set up of equipment. Ability to use hand/power tools to a high standard. Ability to interpret technical information and understanding technical plans and drawings would be beneficial. Good attention to detail and ability to follow procedures. Good team player with ability to work individually as well. Enthusiasm to learn and good interpersonal skills. Positive attitude and good work ethic.
