Job Description
This is an exciting and rare opportunity to join an established, national contractor as a Commercial Manager with commercial responsibility for a portfolio of Civils and Buildings, Asset Maintenance/Management Rail projects within the Eastern Region contributing to the commercial & financial management and profitable performance of a portfolio of works throughout the region.
Applicants must have Construction or Civil Engineering Commercial Management experience to be considered for this role.
Business Unit
The business unit consists of ‘small’ maintenance projects both reactive and planned around the Rail network. They are responsible for the maintenance and Repair of Rail Assets in a long-term framework / contract agreement with works typically ranging in type, scale and value.
Projects can typically include repair and maintenance to bridges, tunnels, structures, stations, embankments, flood and weather damage, signage, de-vegetation, fencing, handrails etc.
The Role
Our client requires a Commercial Manager with experience in a multi-disciplinary Rail, Civils and Building Maintenance project environments. The primary purpose of this role is to ensure the efficient and effective management and utilisation of commercial resources within the Business Unit in order to deliver profitable performance in line with the objectives of the regional business plan, with responsibilities including:
* Supporting the Operations Director in developing and managing the regional business plan.
* Effective recruitment, training, deployment and utilisation of commercial staff.
* Effective contribution to the maximisation of financial return on projects.
* Identification of commercial business risk and developing solutions for its minimisation.
* Review and negotiation of terms and conditions of contract and subcontract pre & post tender award.
* Managing commercial disputes.
* Monitoring Business Unit Costs within budgetary constraints.
* Defining the commercial parameters of contracts.
* Ensuring a good level of Cash flow is maintained within the Business Unit.
* The provision of commercial support and guidance to the Business Unit Management Team.
* Commercial and Contractual support to the estimating and bidding process.
* Contributing to the commercial requirements of pre-qualification and tender documents.
* Ensuring the adoption of a best practice and continuous improvement approach to all commercial processes and procedures.
* Being a visible commercial point of contact for client senior management and responding accordingly to problems.
* Ensure that a full tender handover is completed to ensure pricing strategies, risks & opportunities are fully understood by the receiving project team
* Support the development and management of the Business Units forecasts and Business Plan.
