QUANTITY SURVEYOR REQUIRED BROMFORD / MIDLANDS
This role exists to support the Commercial Manager to provide commercial expertise on all commercial aspects of reinforced concrete sub & superstructure, and civil engineering projects across various sectors, including HS2, commercial, residential, nuclear, and energy from waste.
Key Responsibilities
1. Cost Management & Reporting:
o Manage and control project costs through the monthly cost reporting process, including preparation of CVR's and detailed costs to completes.
o Analyse monthly costs and provide advice and forecasts.
o Prepare project budget to builds.
o Compile project cashflows.
o Provide support and maintain deadlines in line with the financial reporting calendar.
2. Change Control & Risk Management:
o Identify and manage changes to the contract.
o Price and agree variations.
o Raise early warnings.
3. Contractual Management:
o Provide contractual advice and manage contracts, including NEC3 & JCT forms.
o Deputise for the Commercial Manager, where necessary.
o Work closely with project teams and clients to maintain constructive and positive working relationships that will deliver the outcomes required by the company.
o Assist in providing feedback to Estimators on outputs and scope gaps.
4. Application & Valuation:
o Prepare & submit monthly applications for payment.
o Agree valuation to try and close out variances, and ensure payments are made on time.
o Accurate measurement of quantities from drawings, using standard methods of measurement.
o Carry out an audit of the quantities.
5. Procurement & Subcontract Management:
o Prepare and issue subcontract tender documentation including, where appropriate, preparing scopes of work.
o Prepare bill of quantities/activity schedules, as required.
o Analyse subcontract tenders and prepare comparison reports and recommendations for placement of orders.
o Draft subcontract agreements for approval.
o Manage subcontract packages, including controlling variations, carrying out monthly valuations, issuing timely payment notices and agreeing Final Accounts.
The Ideal Candidate
With at least 5 years quantity surveying experience, and having previously worked on sub and superstructure or civil engineering packages, specifically with concrete/RC Frame structures, basements & earthworks, the ideal candidate will hold a Quantity Surveying degree and a valid CSCS card and be able to demonstrate the following skill set:
* Determination to excel within the role and execute responsibilities with due care & diligence, and attention to detail.
* Experience of working with construction contracts particularly NEC3 & JCT.
* Demonstrate a genuine interest in construction.
* Good numeracy and literacy skills.
* Technically familiar and cost aware with an extensive knowledge of the construction process.
* Ability to use a range of IT packages including Microsoft Office, notably Excel, and bespoke packages (including COINS, Conquest and Candy).
* Commercially aware and ability to identify commercial risk & opportunity.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and oral with the ability to liaise with colleagues at all levels.
* Self-motivated and proactive.
* Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise to meet deadlines.
* Working knowledge of JCT and NEC Forms of Contract and Subcontract.
* A driving licence and own vehicle will be a distinct advantage, as travel to and between sites will be required.

Salary Range: £45k-£50k
Bonus: Discretionary Bonus - paid in November
Probation Period: 6 Months
Annual Leave: 23 days, after 4 years 1 day per year to 27
Private Medical: Single (if not married) or family - on completion of 3 months service
Pension: Employer 5%, Employee 3% - on completion of 3 months service.
