To provide a wide range of clinical and administrative support to the nursing team.
The Health Care Assistant will work under the direction and supervision of the Practice Nurses and/or GPs to provide care for the Practice Population both in the surgery setting and in patients' own homes and care/nursing home settings.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Support:
1. Venepuncture
2. Patients health checks
3. BP recordings
4. Urinalysis
5. Peak flow measurements
6. Height and weight measurements
7. Ear Syringing
8. ECG recordings
9. Obtaining blood sugar readings
10. Collection of specimens as required
11. Assisting GPs and Practice Nurses with clinical procedures
12. Chaperoning
13. Assisting with minor surgery as requested by GPs or Practice Nurses
14. Care of minor wounds and application of basic dressings
15. Removal of sutures/clips
16. Vaccinations under a PSD
17. Diabetic Healthcare checks within the surgery, patients' own homes and care/nursing homes
Administrative support:
1. Answering the telephone, receiving and transmitting messages
2. Form filing
3. Arrange patients appointments as necessary
4. Liaise with other health care professionals
5. Electronic patient record keeping
6. Stocking of rooms as necessary
7. Ordering of treatment room equipment and consumables as necessary

Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE (or equivalent) Grade C or above in English and Maths
* Previous employment as a HCA in General Practice
* Skills: Ear syringing; ECG recording; Phlebotomy; Vaccination; Wound care; Computer literate
* Experience of working with a GP clinical system (EMIS)

Salary: £22,468 to £25,855 a year, dependent on experience.
