Herd Manager - Dorset
An exciting opportunity for a Herd Manager to lead our Dairy Farm in Dorset has arisen.
Our Farm
We are currently farming 350 acres with 160 cross-bred cows. We are moving from a high-yield system to a grass-based, high-welfare farm. Our cows yield 8,000 litres, and we supply Wyke Cheese with our milk. We milk twice daily through a 16/32 herringbone and Autumn block calve.
Your Role
1. Day-to-day running of the dairy farm operation - managing the dairy, milking, and ensuring herd health and welfare is the top priority.
2. Taking full responsibility for dry cow management, calving cows and colostrum protocols.
3. Improving cow genetics and the breeding of the herd.
4. Grazing and feed/forage management.
5. Utilising data and maintaining records and compliance.
6. Working closely with the farm owner and associates to strategise and budget plan.
7. Collaborate with vets and other third parties.
8. Undertake proactive management of health and safety standards across the farm estate.
9. Ensuring the farm is kept tidy and safe to operate at all times.
10. Farm machinery and general farm maintenance, including forage work.
Qualifications & Licenses required
1. A full UK Driving license.
2. Proof of UK right to work.
3. AI and Foot Trimming qualification is desired but not essential.
Your Requirements
1. Able to demonstrate strong herd management experience.
2. Be able to work on their own initiative and stay motivated when alone working.
3. Comfortable as a self-starter, who has a high attention to detail.
4. Be a reliable, resourceful and genuine person.
