Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Biomedical Scientist who is professional, reliable, innovative, and flexible to join our friendly and hardworking team in our Histopathology department at Ipswich Hospital as an Advanced Biomedical Scientist.
In this role, you will be involved in the coordination and supervision of the daily operations within the service and the completion of complex and routine Histopathology investigations.
The department handles approximately 26,000 requests per annum (including non-gynae cytology). The laboratory has full UKAS accreditation, and full training status granted by IBMS.

Main duties of the job
In this role, you will be involved in the day-to-day supervision and delivery of the Histopathology service, and as such, you will be a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist.
You will use your significant experience of working within a Histology laboratory, knowledge, and experience of the requirements for accreditation, and will exhibit a commitment to the development of the discipline.
You will have day-to-day management of the service, managing and coordinating day-to-day activities of the team. You will process specialist investigations and be responsible for the standard and quality of results.

Person Specification
Education
* Essential: HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
* Biomedical Science Degree or equivalent.
* MSc in Pathology / Cellular Pathology or significant post-registration experience.
* Evidence of CPD.
* Desirable: Qualification supporting management responsibilities such as health and safety, training officer, or quality management. Postgraduate qualifications like IBMS Higher Specialist diploma, IBMS Diploma in Biomedical Science, Masters, or equivalent.
Knowledge and Experience
* Essential: Highly specialist knowledge and experience in Cellular Pathology procedures, extensive practical experience in a Cellular Pathology Biomedical Science lab, NHS experience, management experience, familiarity with Pathology IT systems, Quality Management Systems, and risk assessments.
* Desirable: European Computer Driving Licence or equivalent.
