We care for children and young people with a variety of presentations from respiratory distress to appendicitis and work closely with our colleagues in the Children’s Assessment Unit and the inpatient paediatric ward to ensure our patients get the best care. The Children’s Emergency Department has 14 beds, including side rooms and an enhanced care bay and resuscitation bay and operates 24 hours a day around the year. We care for children who are acutely unwell, and our aim is to assess and plan effective care interventions to support their recovery.
We cross work between departments when necessary to improve our skills and form part of the larger Jenny Lind Children’s Hospital team.
As a band 2 you will work as part of the nursing team to ensure patient care is of the highest standard and the clinical environment is welcoming and meets all set targets for cleanliness and safety.
You will be working in a team of Nurses, Doctors, Advanced Paediatric Nurse Practitioners, Healthcare Assistants and Play Specialists to provide high quality care for our patients.
Training opportunities for our ChED HCAs include team include: Observations, ECGs, Wound care, plaster application.
You will have the opportunity to look after a wide range of patients that present with both injuries and illnesses and support them with their journey throughout the hospital.

• To accurately and promptly carry out the instructions of the Registered Nurse who is professionally accountable for the delivery of care.
• To deliver care and carry out duties as specified within the Trusts Approved core task list for Healthcare assistants.
• To report to Registered Nurse any patient who gives cause for concern or any observed changes in the patient’s condition.
• To respond appropriately to clinical emergencies to ensure the patient receives appropriate care.
• To participate in the admission process under the supervision of the Registered Nurse
• Provide and deliver a high standard of individualised personal nursing care.
• To report all care that has been given to patients within the team to a Registered Nurse.
• To accurately document all care delivered to patients, countersigned by a Registered Nurse maintaining confidentiality at all times.
• To assist in the preparation of patients and equipment for treatment, investigations or procedures as directed by the Registered Nurse.
• To keep the clinical area clean and tidy maintaining a safe environment.
