The Opportunity:
Are you an enthusiastic IT network specialist looking for an exciting DevOps role? We have an opportunity for you that will involve maintaining and developing the data network, AV infrastructure and data centres for a world-leading teaching and research centre in informatics, located in the heart of Edinburgh.
This post is advertised as full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working. The team currently operates a 50%, i.e. 2.5 days, on-campus working arrangement which has been agreed by the line manager.
Your skills and attributes for success:
Essential knowledge and experience
The school relies heavily on automation so the ability to write clean, readable, and easily maintainable code is essential
Good working knowledge of a scripting language (eg Python / Perl)
Good working knowledge of networking (eg. dns, routing, firewalls)
Good working knowledge of Linux
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to convey information in a clear, concise manner
Proven ability to plan and prioritise a busy and demanding workload
Proven ability to work productively as part of a team and build effective relationships with colleagues at all levels
Active interest in continuing professional development
Desirable knowledge and experience
Good working knowledge of AV equipment, including matrix switches, programmable control panels
Working knowledge of software development tools and practices (eg git / svn)
