An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Haematology Team at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust. As a Haematology Assistant Practitioner, you will provide a pivotal role in the development and delivery of this service.
Haematology is a growing service delivering care to a large range of patients as inpatients and outpatients. The successful candidate will work closely with the Haematology Nurse Specialist group and assist in care delivery at South Tyneside and Sunderland. Delivery of care will involve communication with patients and staff face to face and by telephone. Communication skills are therefore essential, along with existing knowledge of the service. This is an 18-month fixed term post initially to gain proof of concept for the post.
Main duties of the job
The assistant practitioner in haematology will be expected to:
1. Provide effective, caring, and compassionate services to patients.
2. Work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver a high standard of care and support to patients with a haematological disorder, coordinating care from initial referral to end of treatment.
3. Support and signpost patients face to face and over the telephone, ensuring effective progress alongside the haematology clinical team.
4. Provide non-specialist planned interventions and support to improve haematology patient care, service delivery, and patient experience.
5. Improve the delivery of the personalised care agenda to haematology patients in line with national guidance.

Provide effective, caring and compassionate services to patients working within a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to deliver a high standard of care and support to patients with a haematological disorder. This will involve co-ordinating care from referral to the end of treatment, requiring regular contact with patients. You will be expected to support and signpost patients face to face and over the telephone and ensure effective progress along their care in a close team with the haematology specialist nurses and consultant haematologists. You will be providing non-specialist planned interventions and support to improve haematology patient care and experience.

Qualifications
* NVQ Level 3 or above in Business Administration or equivalent relevant qualification.
* A demonstrably high level of numeracy, written and spoken English (GCSE grade C and above or equivalents).
* Willingness to complete a Level 2 Healthcare Support Worker qualification on commencement to post (if not already achieved).
* Willing to undertake further training related to the role.
* Willing to complete Competency Based Assessments and a Portfolio of evidence to achieve the Care Certificate.
