Specialist Pharmacist - Oncology & Aseptic Services
We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic clinical pharmacist who is looking to progress their career in the areas of oncology and aseptic services.
The role will develop your clinical pharmacy skills within cancer services and allow you to gain technical knowledge and experience within our aseptic unit.
The pharmacy is part of a multidisciplinary team which has been recognized as one of the best for cancer care in recent patient experience surveys.
We offer a structured and extensive training program and staff are further supported in post-graduate studies such as the diploma, independent prescribing and PTQA.

Main duties of the job
1. To provide a specialist and patient-focused oncology pharmacy service ensuring chemotherapy regimens are safe and appropriate for administration to individual patients given their diagnosis and health status.
2. To provide expert advice on oncology pharmacy issues including clinical, funding, and prescribing issues.
3. To be an Authorised Pharmacist in accordance with the guidelines in Quality Assurance for Aseptic Preparation Services and deputise for the Accountable Pharmacist when required.
4. To undertake teaching and supervision of less experienced pharmacists, students, and technical staff.
5. Contribute to the emergency duty and weekend pharmacy service.

Job responsibilities
* Clinically checking and verifying prescriptions.
* Providing specialist oncology pharmacy advice to other members of the multidisciplinary team and, where appropriate, to patients.
* To train and assess less experienced pharmacists, students, and other members of staff in oncology pharmacy practice.
* Act as an Authorised Pharmacist and be responsible for the day-to-day provision of Aseptic preparation Services.
* Support the Accountable Pharmacist in the development and maintenance of the Pharmaceutical Quality System.
* Deputise for the Accountable Pharmacist where appropriate.
* Support the management of Clinical Trials involving chemotherapy and other aseptically prepared products.
* Contribute to the development of policies and procedures and ensure SOPs are adhered to.
* Advise clinicians and dietitians on technical aspects of TPN prescribing.
* Prepare statistical data relating to workload and drug wastage that affects provision of pharmaceutical services.
* To support the recording, collation, analysis, and reporting of medication errors so that lessons are learnt from these mistakes.
* To participate in the pharmacy weekend rota and on-call services.
* To be a designated departmental key holder and as such have the responsibility for the security of the drug stock of the pharmacy department. You may frequently be the most senior pharmacist in the pharmacy at the weekends and therefore subsume responsibility for the operation and security of the department during these times.
* To support within the Trust the development and provision of regular drug/pharmacy education and training that is linked to workplace assessment to ensure clinical competency of all healthcare professionals involved with medicines.
* To ensure that robust systems are in place within the Trust to control the clinical risk of medicines to patients.
* To plan and undertake audit and project work to demonstrate effective medicines management to the Trust.
* To ensure all aspects of prescribing, storage, and administration of medicines throughout the Trust comply with the standards defined by the Medicines Management Drug Policies.
* To provide advice and support to patients ensuring that they get the best from their medicines.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Master's Degree in Pharmacy.
* Registered with the UK General Pharmaceutical Council.
* Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy (or equivalent) or working towards qualification.
* Independent prescriber or interest in working towards qualification.
Experience
* Clinical pharmacy experience in a hospital setting.
* Evidence of CPD.
* Specialist knowledge of Pharmacy systems.
* Evidence of audit or project work.
Skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* I.T. Literate.
* Ability to prioritise clinical workload.
* Evidence of self-reflection.
* Evidence of team working.
* Experience of teaching or mentoring other team members.
