Job Purpose:
To assist in the efficient and effective management of a petrol station, ensuring exceptional customer service, adherence to company policies, and the smooth operation of the facility.
Reports to: Store Manager
Key Accountabilities:
1. Budget Management:
- Maximize sales within budgetary limits set by the company.
2. Customer Service:
- Set an example of high-level customer service for the staff.
- Ensure that staff deliver excellent customer service at all times.
- Step in to perform Sales Assistant/Supervisor duties when needed.
3. Stock Control:
- Efficiently manage stock levels.
- Place stock orders and oversee deliveries according to company procedures.
- Ensure stock rotation and conduct regular date checks.
- Maintain stock replenishment and carry out regular stock takes.
4. Site Presentation/Merchandising:
- Ensure the store is well presented with all point of sale materials displayed as per planograms.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping throughout the site.
5. Fuel/Forecourt Management:
- Manage fuel orders and ensure compliance with company and statutory standards.
6. Administration:
- Carry out effective and timely paperwork and administration tasks for the site.
- Manage and maintain all site systems (e.g., Torex, back-office IT, CCTV).
- Implement promotions in a timely manner.
7. Security:
- Comply with security procedures to ensure the safety of the premises, personnel, cash, stock, and property.
- Act as a key holder and respond to alarm activations outside of normal trading hours.
8. People Management:
- Manage staff rotas to ensure optimal site coverage.
- Motivate and manage staff to deliver excellent customer service and conduct themselves appropriately.
- Delegate site duties effectively.
- Provide on-the-job training and development opportunities.
- Conduct performance discussions and refer issues of poor performance or misconduct to the Area Manager.
- Manage holiday arrangements effectively.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment through leadership.
9. Communication:
- Regularly communicate with the Area Manager about the site's day-to-day operations and competitor activity.
- Communicate company information, policy updates, and procedures to employees via notice boards, staff meetings, or other appropriate means.
- Liaise with external agencies, authorities, and suppliers as required.
10. Site Maintenance/Hygiene:
- Manage equipment upkeep and maintenance, reporting any issues promptly.
- Ensure adherence to hygiene and cleanliness standards, conducting routine cleaning.
11. Training:
- Conduct induction and on-the-job training for staff to develop their potential.
12. Legal Compliance:
- Act as the license holder for the sale of alcohol (if applicable) and comply with all related legal requirements.
- Comply with legal requirements for the sale of petroleum spirit.
- Conduct regular date and temperature checks.
- Ensure compliance with all Trading Standards requirements.
13. Health & Safety:
- Adhere to all Health & Safety procedures and regulations.
- Ensure staff awareness of procedures and their responsibilities.
