Lead the company's strategy in reducing crime and improving security, including being responsible for the company's statutory and regulatory duties. Accountability for SWR's safeguarding strategy and driving down incidents of workplace violence. Works closely with the Head of Occupational Safety to drive a positive safety culture within the business and leads on safety and security training.
Your main responsibilities will be:
1. Lead the company's efforts in reducing crime and improving security, including being responsible for the company's statutory and regulatory duties.
2. Manage SWR's application of the National Rail Security Programme
3. Oversee the application of the General Data Protection Regulations, acting as the Data Control Officer for SWR
4. Management responsibility for coordinating the application of security arrangements of SWR
5. Work with BTP and other agencies to reduce incidents of crime and disorder, suicide and increase public confidence by impacting positively on your voice/ passenger/ customer surveys
6. Manage period meetings with security agencies to target crime hot-spots and reduce and prevent fatalities
7. Engage with RDG Police & Security group ensuring that SWR are abreast and included within the wider rail security and policing issues
8. Support line management in delivery of security briefings, ensuring that they are clearly understood by all
9. Responsible for security compliance and legislation (inc CCTV)
10. Responsible for high profile management of security across both the team and the wider network
11. Formulate annual strategies in relation to such areas of trespass, vulnerable people and staff assaults with accountability for ensuring they are embedded across the business
12. Ensure the appropriate action plans are in place to address identified issues set out in the strategy as well as emerging issues and leading the delivery of these through others
13. Manage security committees where applicable and represent the company at internal and external security and community safety meetings as required
14. Leading multi-functional projects with wide-ranging scope, motivating and inspiring members of the team and other colleagues, to deliver performance improvements across the South Western Railway
15. Be the responsible holder of the company's security related documentation
16. Deliver the annual security budget
17. Responsible for delivering safety and security training to the business to retain compliance.
18. Manage/Support internal professional standards investigations
19. Act as the Coroners Liaison Officer for SWR and represent the organisation during the coronial process
20. Stand in for the Safety and Security Director when needed.

26. Ensures adequate professional training and development plans are in place for themselves and their team
As a minimum, you will need to have:
27. Degree level qualification or equivalent experience of Crime Prevention and/or NPSA qualifications
28. Membership of a professional organisation such as the institute of security professionals
29. Significant senior level experience of leading and motivating large and specialist teams
30. Good knowledge of Crime and Security
31. National Security clearance
32. Proven experience of creating and maintaining positive long-term relationships with communities, service organisations, businesses, customers and work colleagues
33. Experience in reporting and analysing security data
Desirable Knowledge/Skills/Experience
34. Knowledge of policing of the railways
35. Knowledge and experience of railway industry security requirements, specifically the National Rail Security Programme (NRSP)
36. Co-ordination and delivery of safety and security training
About the location
South Western Railways HQ is based on the 4th Floor at South Bank Central, a stone's throw from the River Thames and a 10 minute walk from our busiest station, Waterloo. It is local to many well-known attractions, restaurants and retail facilities and is easily accessible by public transport.
Working pattern
Working an average of 37 hours per week over 5 days
Predominantly 9-5 but a requirement to work some weekends when there are major planned events on the network (and short notice when there are unplanned events) and to be part of the security on call and senior manager on call roster.
