Technical Specialist | Generative and Synthetic Genomics
Do you want to help us improve human health and understand life on Earth? Make your mark by shaping the future to enable or deliver life-changing science to solve some of humanity’s greatest challenges.
As Technical Specialist, you will be responsible for:
* Operating and maintaining automated pipelines and enhancing workflows
* Development of technologies and methods for the study of gene expression using genomics and computational approaches, for example setting up advanced methods for parallel genomic integration of large DNA payloads
* Collaborating with internal teams and external collaborators to ensure project progress and provide regular updates
About Us
The Taipale group is newly established at the Wellcome Sanger Institute.
The laboratory consists of experimental biologists and computer scientists who focus on the study of transcriptional control of cell growth, using functional genomics and systems biology, and mouse genetic models. Current lines of work include high-throughput determination of binding sites and binding specificities of human transcription factors, and using this information to identify regulatory elements that control cell growth during normal development and in cancer.
The lab benefits from access to cutting-edge facilities at the Wellcome Sanger Institute such as DNA sequencing, Cell Operations and Automation.
We aim to decipher the regulatory genetic code using random DNA and measuring its activity using experimental and AI models. The work profile will be a combination of wet-lab and dry-lab tasks.
About You
To excel in this role, you will need the following skills and experience:
* A degree in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry or related discipline. A PhD or post-graduate degree in a related discipline would be desirable.
* A background in genomics, biophysics or a related discipline and a desire to perform quantitative experiments at scale to address fundamental questions in molecular biology.
* Using liquid handler platforms with Beckman/Hamilton being an advantage.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders.
Other Information:
Please include a cover letter along with your CV. In your cover letter, include detail on how your knowledge, skills and experience match the requirements of the role described.
We recognise that there are many benefits to Hybrid Working; including an improved work-life balance, with more focused time, as well as the ability to organise working time so that collaborative opportunities and team discussions are facilitated on campus.
