Blackness Vets has an exciting opportunity for a proactive and dedicated Registered Head Veterinary Nurse to take the reins of our nursing team on a permanent basis. This is a key leadership role where you will manage and inspire a team of Veterinary Care Assistants and a Dispensary Assistant, while actively engaging in nurse consultations, theatre nursing, and inpatient care.
As the Head Veterinary Nurse, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our nursing department, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation. Your focus will be on empowering your team, enhancing operational efficiency, and driving clinical standards forward. This is a busy, hands-on nursing role where you’ll be fully immersed in utilising your skills as part of a dynamic and supportive team. You’ll also have the chance to collaborate with our vets, one of whom is starting an exotics certificate and another pursuing a surgical certificate. Additionally, our team includes vets with a keen interest in imaging, and we are open to supporting an RVN who is eager to pursue CPD in Ultrasound to assist with patient scanning.

This full-time, permanent role consists of 37.5 hours per week, with 1:6 Saturdays (paid in lieu), and we’re happy to offer the flexibility of a 4- or 5-day week depending on your preference.
About Blackness Veterinary Surgery
Blackness Veterinary Surgery is situated in the Heart of Dundee with close links to the Bus and Train Stations. Perth, Fife and Aberdeen are within a 1-hour car journey away. The practice is a large newly renovated building with various facilities including 2 operating theatres, with piped oxygen, an imaging suite with X-ray and top of the range Ultrasound, dental suite with Dental X-ray facilities, an endoscopy unit, in-house lab equipment, a large training room, where we host regular lunch and learns / team meetings.
Meet like-minded people
Currently we have 6 Veterinary Surgeons, 7 Registered Veterinary Nurses, 1 Student Veterinary Nurse, 2 Animal Care Assistants and 7 Receptionists. One of our Vets and Nurses are working towards their exotic’s certificates. Our Nurses are Schedule 3 trained and are now carrying out staged Dentistry. We have a very strong Nursing team.
As a practice we work closely with our local kennels, treating stray dogs and cat protection as well as guide dogs. We have a close working relationship with the local SRUC colleges, developing Nurses and Veterinary Care Assistants.
