Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Recircle is currently expanding its Engineering Projects team and is searching for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our company.
The primary function in this role will be to develop efficient solutions for our uncured rubber waste processing technology, ranging from small component designs to extremely large plants and machinery. The role encompasses all aspects from concept ideation through to operational validation, and you will work on all stages of our technologies, from research and development, design and manufacture, through to installation, commissioning, and performance analysis to support future design improvements.
The successful candidate will drive mechanical design engineering excellence within Recircle’s cross-functional engineering team, while also collaborating with prestigious academic and leading industrial partners on our advanced technology developments. The role will primarily be located at Recircle’s Research and Technology centre in Daresbury and may involve travel to other Recircle, partner or customer manufacturing sites on occasion.
Reports to: Head of Engineering
Responsible for: The design and development of mechanical engineering elements of Recircle's technologies.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Contribute to the development of new products or improvements to existing ones.
2. Create detailed designs and drawings of components or systems and analyse their performance using engineering principles.
3. Develop fully detailed CAD engineering drawings and models, complete all necessary simulations, select appropriate materials and provide details for BOMs where required.
4. Develop and conduct tests to validate designs and prototypes.
5. Analyse test results and make necessary adjustments to improve product performance.
6. Work with subcontractors to deliver equipment designs to specification and delivery schedules.
7. Work with manufacturing teams to ensure efficient and effective production processes.
8. Address issues related to materials, processes, and quality control.
9. Manage projects from conception to completion, including data analysis, design, specification, planning, budgeting, and coordination of resources.
10. Ensure projects meet deadlines and quality standards.
11. Troubleshoot and solve engineering problems that arise during the design, manufacturing, or testing phases.
12. Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, materials and other advancements in the field.
13. Engage in professional development opportunities and learning to enhance skills and knowledge.
14. Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including other engineers, designers, and professionals from different departments, to achieve project goals.
Key Experience:
1. Experience with design drawings, drawing specifications, machining, fabrication, and production processes.
2. Demonstratable practical experience in troubleshooting and finding solutions to complex engineering problems in real-world scenarios.
3. Experience in the design of processes, test prototypes, conducting experiments, and analysing results.
4. Practical experience in the application of engineering concepts, gained through internships, co-op programs, or personal projects.
5. Involvement in project management activities, such as planning, scheduling, and budgeting.
6. Understanding of industry-specific challenges, regulations, and standards in relevant industries.
7. Experience in effectively communicating technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
8. Experience with fluid management systems or wastewater treatment is highly valued.
Key Qualifications:
1. A bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical engineering or a related field.
2. Proficiency in using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA).
3. Strong problem-solving skills to address challenges in the design, manufacturing, or operational phases of a project.
4. Highly effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
5. Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
6. Understanding of project management principles.
7. Precision and attention to detail in design, analysis, and documentation.
