This role will involve working closely with Clinical Investigators, Research Nurses, and other members of research teams to maintain holistic support for all clinical trial participants, thus facilitating a high-quality research service. The post holder is responsible for management of a defined portfolio of studies and caseload of patients participating in research trials in NHS care.
The post holder will contribute to the development of the speciality service, manage performance, and finance of their trials, and ensure cost-effective use of resources. The post holder will also be expected to show key leadership qualities by initiating service improvement for the department and developing and managing other team members, such as Clinical Trials Assistants, Clinical Research Practitioners, and band 5 research nurses. They will also play a role in developing research awareness across the trust to all staff groups.
This role has 2 base locations: 1 at Harrogate Hospital and 1 at the Innovation Hub at Grimbald Crag Way, Knaresborough, HG5 8PZ.
Main duties of the job
To manage studies in collaboration with existing research staff, act as the main point of contact for participants and carry out tasks including:
1. Working closely with the Principal Investigator to provide a consistent point of contact for the trial.
2. Becoming familiar with the protocol for the study.
3. Identifying patients who may be suitable for the trial, liaising with clinicians, and attending clinical team meetings to promote research participation and remind clinical team members about the requirements for the trial.
4. Working with the Investigators to recruit patients to trials where appropriate and manage the performance of the study.
5. Providing information to potential trial participants considering participation, answering their questions, and referring to the Principal Investigator where required.

Job responsibilities
The role of the research nurse is an agile post and he/she may be required to contribute to any of the specialities at HDFT. This role will primarily involve the specialities of critical care - ICU and the specialities of diabetes and cardiology. A secondment may be considered.
Person Specification
Essential and Desirable
* Registered with Health Professions Council or NMC.
* Awareness of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) clinical trial standards and the detailed trial-specific rules it provides for administration and record keeping.
* Computer literate with Microsoft Office software (including Word, Excel) and knowledge of research platform EDGE.
* Experience with audit and service improvement.
* Substantial post-registration clinical experience (i.e., worked in the NHS for at least 2 years post-registration).
* Presentation and teaching skills.
* Awareness of research design and methods; understanding of the analytical process.
* Evidence of leadership or management qualification.
* Relevant post-registration clinical experience in treatment of patients with specialty conditions where research is active such as ITU, Diabetes, Cardiology.
* Ability to collect and collate trial data and complete trial documentation, maintaining all study site files to GCP standards.

Salary: £37,338 to £44,962 a year per annum pro rata.
