We have an opportunity for a Structural Technician to join our team. This role will be predominantly based at the Bright Bar Rotherham facility but work schedules could be assigned at any of the BAR production facilities on site.

The Role of the Structural Technician
* Working in a heavy engineering plant environment you will be expected to deliver both reactive and preventative maintenance.
* Reporting to the Team Leader / Shift Engineer assisting in the efficient operation of the Structural function. Following routine planned maintenance schedules, such as plant inspection and overhauls including the reporting of all findings.
* Responding to breakdown situations and having the ability to prioritise and make conscious decisions in a swift manner.
* Working to the highest standard of health and safety in a team working environment.
Health and Safety
* Ability to follow Safe Working Procedures.
* Experience of assessing risk and able to carry out Point of work risk assessments, identify any hazards and implement sufficient control measures to create a safe environment.
* Awareness of Isolation and Immobilisation systems.
* Proactively demonstrate a good attitude towards Health, Safety and Environment matters specific to the role.
* Worked under permit systems previously or has knowledge of how permit systems operate.
Requirements of the Structural Technician
Training / Experience.
* Hold a Recognised Structural apprenticeship (ONC level or equivalent).
* Structural experience using a variety of welding equipment and processes:
o MMA
o MIG
o TIG
o Oxy-fuel cutting
* Knowledge of welding standards WPQR, ISO9606-1, and / or BSEN4872 would be advantageous.
* Experience using electrical and mechanical tools and machines such as guillotines, saws, grinders, drills, croppers etc.
* Must be multi-skilled in a heavy industrial environment. Plating and welding experience of heavy and light fabrications, desirably with pipefitting experience.
* Mechanical fitting experience, knowledge of bearings, pumps, gearboxes etc., would be a considerable advantage.
* Experience in testing and inspecting welded surfaces and structures to discover flaws by testing techniques such as MPI, Dye Penetrant etc.
* Overhead crane maintenance.
* Good level of problem-solving awareness and the ability to methodically fault find any issues.
* Ability to read and understand engineering and technical drawings and work with technical data.
* Ability and experience of working to weld procedures.
* PPM systems.
* Demonstrate good housekeeping awareness and standards.
* Experience of adhering to SWP’s, risk assessments, procedures and permit systems.
* Team working, worked within a team and / or capable of self-direction.
* A working knowledge of computerised maintenance management systems and other applications, which are widely used by the Engineering function.
* Experience of working in confined spaces.
* Experience of working at heights.
* Experience of a similar role.
The Team Member will be expected to have knowledge of all of the above. They should have a high technical ability and be adept at problem solving. The focus of the team will be on building and executing the planned maintenance strategy, including repairs. A key focus will be the early identification and rectification of faults, in order to reduce failures.
The Working Pattern of the Structural Technician
* This is a Monday to Friday Role 8am - 4pm.
