Nyth y Deryn is our new school based in Leckwith. We are part of the Bryn y Deryn family of schools. At Nyth y Deryn, we work with for 90 learners who have behavioural, emotional, mental health and social difficulties. Our school provides supports for learners from high schools across the City of Cardiff. We aim to support these learners and their schools to overcome obstacles to educational success. We are resourceful. We are committed and we never have problems just solutions we haven’t found yet.

Nyth y Deryn provides education and wellbeing for learners with challenging behavioural, emotional and social difficulties as well as for learners with emotional based school avoidance. High quality learning and excellent care, support and guidance are at the heart of our school. As is a commitment to trauma informed approaches. The vision for this school is for the majority of learners to reintegrate back into mainstream schools but you need to have the flexibility and commitment to work with individual need. This means being resourceful and adaptable in your approach. Possessing a strong commitment to working with families, home contacts, external agencies and schools.
Senior Teaching Assistants will have a main responsibility of:
* ALN & literacy and numeracy interventions
* Engagement (behaviour) and wellbeing
* Safeguarding Assistant
As well as:
Cover supervisor
To work under the guidance of teaching/ALNCO/senior staff and within an agreed system of supervision, to implement agreed work programmes with individuals/groups, in or out of the classroom. This could include those requiring detailed and specialist knowledge in particular areas and will involve assisting the teachers & ALNCO in the whole planning cycle and the management/preparation of resources. Staff may also supervise whole classes occasionally during the short-term absence of teachers. The primary focus will be to maintain good order and to keep learners on task. Cover Supervisors will need to respond to questions and generally assist learners to undertake set activities.
Working under direction: offer support for a wide range of ALN which are barriers to learning for learners.
What We Are Looking For From You
The successful applicant will work as part of a team and have previous experience of working with learners who have behaviour social and mental health problems and be able to empathise with pupils’ difficulties in a cover/leading learning and intervention capacity.

Additional information
This role is part-time at 32.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year. The advertised salary is based on a full-time role (37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year). The actual salary will be lower than the advertised salary because of the part-time hours and weeks worked.
This post carries an additional SEN payment of £561.84 per annum.
