As a trainee Boat Person you will be trained and supported with the goal of becoming a competent Barge Master, capable of safely and efficiently operating our Sand Dredging barges. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills in a unique environment, becoming a new member of the strong team at Sandy Bay. We will provide a structured training programme depending on your experience, covering safety, navigation, boat craft, loading and discharging procedures training will be delivered mainly by mentoring on vessel, along with MCA guidance notes and internal safe operating procedures. It is envisaged that the training programme would be completed after 12 months. On successful completion, you will be deemed safe and competent to independently operate the barge as a support function to our sand operation. More about what you will do Assisting to perform pre and post inspections To ensure company and regulatory environmental standards are maintained To ensure the vessel is operated legally in line with inland waterways convention to other dredgers and pleasure craft Navigate and manoeuvre vessel in a safe manner Understand and be competent in emergency procedures and protocol To assist to ensure product quality is maintained Assisting to complete daily checks and maintenance of the boat To fuel the boat as required To drive in a fuel-efficient manner at all times To assist with repairs during breakdowns and complete preventative maintenance Assisting to inspect and clean the boat daily and report faults to Depot Manager To comply with health and safety procedures and policies to ensure the role is carried out without risk to self and others. To carry out any other reasonable duties as required.
