Job summary This is an exciting opportunity to join the UHMBT maternity education team. The post holder will assist the multi-professional team in the provision of high quality, effective and compassionate family-centred maternity service; to ensure optimal care for women, their babies and their families. Provide support and education to Maternity Support Workers, from initial recruitment, during induction and on-going development. Be a role model in high standards of clinical practice and leadership; ensuring that maternity support workers also provide a high standard of practice which is based on current evidence, guidelines and policies. Assist in the implementation of new guidelines and initiatives from both local and national requirements across all areas of maternity services. Be flexible in meeting the needs of the service and when required, supporting midwives and the wider team in providing direct clinical care to women and babies Have a visible presence in the clinical environment and provide one to one support and education for the maternity support workers Main duties of the job To be responsible, alongside the Maternity Training Team, for the educational and training support of the whole multi-professional team with a specific emphasis on Maternity Support Workers Take responsibility for the practical orientation /induction of newly appointed Maternity Support Workers. Support colleagues to maintain essential skills following appropriate training Undertake an active role in the provision of practice based education and training for staff within maternity services, facilitating PROMPT training, skills drills and other study days Work with Maternity Support Workers within the clinical environment when required Work autonomously and proactively to positively influence the quality of the clinical learning environment. Participate in the development and the delivery of mandatory and in-service training. Perform administrative duties, where necessary, in the maintenance of training data; ensuring accurate training information is recorded and updated. Participate in the teaching, training and mentoring of staff within the scope of the MSW role and responsibilities and in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team. Participate in recruitment and interview process of Maternity Support Workers Identify learning needs of individual Maternity Support Workers and put in place learning development plans as required. About us We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
