We are looking for Medical Engineers with experience in this field. You should have skills such as dexterity, problem-solving approach, electrical/electronic engineering knowledge and experience, and the ability to diagnose and fix electrical/electronic medical devices.
You will be dynamic and motivated, with strong interpersonal skills that positively impact our team's challenges. You will work autonomously, making daily decisions and providing advice to clinical teams, ensuring patient safety.
A full UK Driving Licence is essential for this role.
Main duties of the job
This job is varied and will keep you on your toes. You will provide a full range of medical device management and maintenance services to all clinical locations throughout our Hospitals. You will have an eye for detail and understand the importance of accurately updating the medical equipment management database.
You’ll be proactive in ensuring our service is the best it can be by focusing on best practices and highlighting any processes that could be improved.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Communicate and develop relationships with a range of organisations and technical and clinical staff on adverse incidents and investigations.
* Explain the possible configurations of users’ computer/microprocessor-based equipment and configure it to operate appropriately and safely.
* Develop relationships with medical equipment manufacturers and suppliers to obtain best value and quality.
* Liaise with external contractors for repairs and repair quotations.
* Communicate efficiently with staff at all levels within the Trust regarding medical equipment.
* Prioritise and negotiate with other Health Care Professionals for access to medical equipment maintenance.
* Provide technical information and training on devices to colleagues.
* Undertake CPD to update technical and clinical knowledge.
* Act independently and efficiently in all situations with patients, colleagues, and contractors.
* Organise loan equipment provision when repairs cannot be achieved within a desired time scale.
* Participate in regular meetings with Medical Engineering Management to improve departmental performance.
* Undertake project work when appropriate.
* Work unsupervised to Professional Standards in compliance with Department of Health guidelines.
* Carry out regular maintenance, calibration, and safety testing of medical equipment.

Knowledge & Experience
* Comprehensive experience of record keeping on computer-based systems.
* Experience of teamwork and sharing tasks and responsibilities.
* Sound knowledge of scientific, technical, and computing principles.
* Knowledge of infection dangers from working on medical equipment.
* Understanding of MMD 2014, CE marking, and MHRA incident reporting systems.
* Experience in the Health and Safety aspects of maintaining Medical Equipment.
* Familiarity with a range of medical equipment design, use, maintenance, and repair procedures.
* Experience of working within a Quality System.
* Work experience in community/primary settings.
* Experience of working in an NHS organisation.
Qualifications & Education
* Professional electronics knowledge to degree equivalent level (B Eng in electronics or HNC/D).
* Full UK Driving Licence.
* Registered with the RCT/IPEM.
