Swanstaff Ltd are working with a prestige care home based in Hertfordshire for a Registered Manager-Residential Care.
Job Purpose
Lead and manage a small 10 bedded service for people with learning disabilities, autism and/or mental health conditions. Adhere to all regulatory and relevant legislation requirements.
Provide effective leadership to the staff team promoting the values, policies, and procedures. To ensure that the workforce has the skills, competencies and knowledge to ensure that the people we support lead as independent and fulfilling lives as possible.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Leadership: Ensure that there are effective support plans in place for all the people we support based on their needs, risks, and wishes, in co-production with them. Ensure these are updated at least monthly or as needs change.
2. Promote independence, positive risk-taking, and embracing Equality and Inclusion to enable the people we support to live their best possible lives.
3. Ensure that rotas reflect individual hours and recognize the skill mix of the workforce, ensuring safe, effective staffing levels.
4. Ensure that there is evidence of effective handovers, planning of day-to-day activities, and ensuring staff are following support plans and relevant policies and procedures.
5. Oversee and monitor accidents or incidents ensuring these are documented in the manager's monthly report and relevant safeguarding or CQC notifications have been raised.
6. Monitor and oversee the interactions and performance of staff on duty and respond to poor or inappropriate practice.
7. Ensure that safeguarding concerns are reported to the Local Authority and liaise with the Quality and Governance Lead immediately in response to serious incidents.
8. Provide effective supervision to support staff.
9. Ensure all staff are up to date with their mandatory training and address non-compliance.
10. Provide on-call phone advice, guidance, and support to the workforce.
11. Ensure that medication is administered in a timely fashion and ensure any medication errors or discrepancies are reported.
12. Develop an open, transparent culture which strives for continuous improvement and the well-being of the staff team.
13. Lead on safer recruitment in line with CQC Regulations.
14. Develop strong relationships with service users and their families ensuring regular monitoring of care and support delivery.
15. Ensure concerns and complaints are acted upon in a timely manner.
16. Ensure new care and support packages are communicated clearly to the staff team.
17. Ensure all people we support have a robust support plan reflecting their needs and risks.
18. Ensure regular audits and spot checks are undertaken to monitor care delivery, staff competency, and service user satisfaction.
19. Be a positive role model and lead the team ensuring annual leave, payroll, recruitment, invoices, and rotas are managed effectively.
20. Ensure all information is kept up to date in accordance with GDPR legislation.
21. Undertake regular supervisions and commit to the development of all staff.
22. Lead on initiatives to market the service and attract new referrals and inquiries.
23. Develop key relationships with the Care Quality Commission, local authority, health professionals, and other key stakeholders.
24. Create an open and transparent culture enabling staff to confidently raise concerns.
25. Plan and lead an on-call rota ensuring staff have access to clear advice in case of emergencies.
26. Commit to the development of the staff team ensuring mandatory training is up to date.
27. Carry out investigations when there have been care or conduct concerns.
28. Act swiftly to performance and capability concerns.
29. Liaise with relevant health professionals in relation to the people we support.
30. Ensure all new staff have an induction and regular meetings in their probation.
31. Address concerns with staff performance, competency, and skills at all times.
32. Ensure robust handovers are carried out between each shift.
Quality and Governance
1. Follow the Governance calendar ensuring all relevant systems and processes are undertaken.
2. Ensure all audits are undertaken as per the Quality Assurance framework.
3. Complete and submit the monthly manager's workbook ensuring all accidents and incidents are recorded.
4. Carry out regular observations audits of staff interactions.
5. Ensure that competencies are undertaken in key areas.
6. Ensure that you apply as a Registered Manager within 2 weeks of commencement in post.
7. Attend the bi-monthly Quality and Governance meetings, feeding back trends and incidents.
Other Duties
1. Take the lead in marketing your service, developing key relationships with commissioners.
2. Act as an ambassador for the service ensuring professionalism and integrity at all times.
3. Refrain from befriending staff or service users on social network sites.
4. Always act in the best interest of any person who may lack capacity.
5. Ensure that safeguarding of the people we support is a priority at all times.
6. Be aware of, and follow the procedure for reporting any safeguarding concerns or incidents.
7. Keep accurate records.
8. Attend training and ensure all mandatory training is up to date.
9. Carry out monthly staff meetings communicating the aims, objectives, and values of the service.
10. Co-operate and attend a yearly appraisal.
11. Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the people you support and the workforce.
12. Embrace team working by ensuring effective communication for the benefit of the people we support.
