The Opportunity
Are you an experienced professional in machine safety and compliance? We are looking for a dynamic Machine safety compliance Engineer to join our Central Engineering Department at our Howden Manufacturing Site. In this pivotal role, you will ensure that all work equipment complies with PUWER regulations and relevant health and safety standards, playing a crucial part in driving safety and compliance across our organisation.

What will you be doing as the Machine safety compliance Engineer:
•Act as the PUWER compliance expert, ensuring all machine assets meet regulatory standards across all sites, from design through life cycle audits and technology updates.
•Set and lead standards for machinery safety compliance, minimising risk.
•Oversee continuous improvement projects to ensure full PUWER compliance.
•Conduct equipment inspections, identify hazards, and implement corrective actions; perform risk assessments for operator and maintenance safety.
•Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to optimise control systems and implement safety modifications.
•Lead the PUWER compliance program and promote a proactive safety culture.
•Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless safety protocol implementation.
•Lead project teams from concept to commissioning, ensuring safety and efficiency.
What do you need to qualify for the Machine safety compliance Engineer:
•Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related engineering fields. NEBOSH or other health and safety certifications are a plus.
•Proven expertise in PUWER compliance, machinery safety, functional safety design, and machine control systems, including PLCs and safety-related controllers.
•Strong leadership with a track record of continuous improvement and team development.
•In-depth understanding of European and UK machinery regulations (CE & UKCA) and functional safety standards.
