The Administration/Laboratory Assistant is responsible for performing all routine administration duties under the overall supervision of the Office Manager. Full training will be given. The Administration/Laboratory Assistant should ultimately be able to work well with minimal supervision, whilst also working effectively as a key team member to maximise the overall service delivered. A flexible ‘can do’ approach is essential for this role. Key Responsibilities Sample reception. Scanning of requests into computer system (Matrix) Use of the Matrix LIMS system and data entry. General admin reception Answering the telephone to clients Preparation and dispatch of laboratory supplies to clients Answering email enquiries from clients Filing of request forms Adherence to written Operating Procedures and Health & Safety rules. Awareness of radioactive procedures as defined by the Environment Agency. Identify own development needs. Works flexibly and collaboratively. Plan own workload in association with the Office Manager. Personal attributes: Qualifications, experience, skills, knowledge and competencies required to fulfil the role Excellent care and attention to detail. Flexible and very conscientious attitude (“Can Do” attitude) Previous experience would be an advantage, but not essential as full training will be given. Experience in a scientific environment would be an advantage but not essential. Able to learn and understand the important elements of laboratory diagnostic testing. An interest in science relating to animals Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal. Good basic education Good English, both written and spoken Good IT skills and be computer literate Strong organisational skills. Ability to use initiative when required. Questions practices to improve performance and quality. Team player.
